Queensland’s Redlands City Council appoints a governance adviser after 114 complaints, including 47 against Mayor Jos Mitchell, amid ongoing scrutiny and legal disputes.
A governance adviser has been appointed for Redlands City Council in Queensland after a record 114 councillor conduct complaints in 2024-25, including 47 targeting Mayor Jos Mitchell.
Though three investigations costing $45,000 found no misconduct, the council previously ruled Mitchell breached its code of conduct.
The adviser, selected by the state government and working part-time until May 2026, will offer guidance on leadership, communication, and wellbeing without administrative or mediating duties.
The appointment follows a council request and comes amid a structural review and operational restructure.
Mitchell is also involved in a defamation lawsuit against the council’s legal officer over an internal email.
The department says the adviser will help improve the council’s effectiveness in serving the community.
