Punjab's top court dismisses charges against CM Bhagwant Mann and 7 AAP MLAs over 2020 protest, ruling it was lawful and lacked evidence.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed an FIR and all related proceedings against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and seven AAP MLAs over a 2020 protest in Chandigarh against a power tariff hike.
The court, led by Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya, ruled no prima facie case existed, noting no prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC had been issued, making the protest lawful.
It found no evidence linking the leaders to stone-pelting or violent acts, with injuries likely resulting from physical altercations, not deliberate assault.
The court dismissed charges under IPC Sections 147, 149, 332, and 353, citing lack of proof and procedural flaws, including failure to file a complaint under Section 195(1)(b) CrPC.
The decision effectively closes the case.
