A Pakistani court unfroze accounts for a cancer trust and university, correcting a mistake that disrupted care and education.
A Pakistani anti-terrorism court has ordered the unfreezing of bank accounts for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and Namal University after a legal challenge revealed the freeze was mistakenly applied due to a warrant against Aleema Khan, sister of PTI leader Imran Khan.
The court ruled that while Aleema’s personal accounts remain frozen, the trust and university’s accounts must be restored immediately, as the prosecution confirmed no request was made to block them.
The freeze, triggered by her CNIC, had disrupted cancer care and university operations, prompting concerns over delayed treatments and stranded medicines.
The decision, welcomed by the trust and university, ensures continued free cancer treatment for over 75% of patients and uninterrupted academic activities.
