New Zealand to fund seven emergency meds for rural health workers starting March 2026.
New Zealand’s Pharmac is proposing to fund seven emergency medicines—droperidol, glucose, ketamine, methoxyflurane, tranexamic acid, and enoxaparin—for rural GPs, nurses, and midwives starting 1 March 2026, expanding access to life-saving treatments in remote areas through PRIME services and home births.
The move aims to close the gap in emergency care between rural and urban regions, aligning community-based response with hospital and ambulance standards.
Public consultation runs until 19 December 2025.
