Mental health issues are the top cause of staff absences at Wiltshire Council, with workers aged 25 to 34 reporting the most cases and those aged 35 to 44 losing the most days.
Mental health-related absences accounted for 32.3% of all lost days—14,437—up 21.9% from the prior year.
Total sickness-related absences rose 15.5% to 43,196 days, with adult social care facing the highest absence rate and turnover.
Despite rising costs, agency worker use and spending dropped, from 52 to 37 workers and from £348,367 to £215,220 monthly.
The findings will be reviewed by the council’s Staffing Policy Committee.
