India warns of rising bioterrorism threats and calls for global treaty reforms at 50th anniversary event.

At the 50th anniversary of the Biological Weapons Convention in New Delhi, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar warned that bioterrorism by non-state actors is a pressing threat and called for global reforms to modernize the treaty. He stressed stronger compliance, monitoring of biotech advances, and greater Global South participation. India emphasized its role as a major vaccine and medicine supplier and unveiled a National Implementation Framework to strengthen oversight of high-risk agents, dual-use research, and incident response.
