CBI arrests Shafat Ahmad Shangloo in 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former home minister.
The CBI has arrested Shafat Ahmad Shangloo, a Srinagar native and former JKLF activist, in connection with the 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
The abduction, which occurred as she returned from a hospital internship, led to a controversial prisoner swap that released five militants in exchange for her freedom.
Shangloo, alleged to have managed JKLF finances and conspired with Yasin Malik—now imprisoned for terror financing—was taken into custody with local police assistance.
Rubaiya, who lives in Tamil Nadu, identified Malik and others as abductors during court testimony.
The case, investigated for decades, remains active before a TADA court in Jammu.
