ByteDance has launched an AI voice assistant powered by its Doubao model, initially available on ZTE’s Nubia M153 prototype smartphone priced at 3,499 yuan ($495).
The assistant enables voice-activated tasks like booking tickets and searching content, with plans to expand to other manufacturers.
The move follows ByteDance’s push into generative AI amid TikTok’s maturing market and potential U.S. regulatory risks.
The company, which has no plans to make phones, reported 159 million monthly active users for Doubao, outpacing rivals.
