A final 5% pay rise, completing a 15% wage increase over two years, has been implemented for early childhood educators in Australia as part of a $3.6 billion federal initiative.
The boost, adding about $200 weekly since December 2024, has helped reduce staff shortages and turnover, with a 6% rise in educator numbers and a 14% drop in vacancies from October 2024 to October 2025.
About three-quarters of providers have joined, agreeing to limit fee increases.
However, uncertainty remains about the program’s future after it ends in November 2026, with warnings of potential pay cuts and worker departures if no extension is made.
A government decision will follow a Fair Work Commission review in 2026.
