Animal bones found on Edinburgh's Crow Hill after a wildfire are being analyzed to determine their origin and age.
Unusual animal bones, including those from cattle, horse, sheep or goat, and possibly cat, were found on Crow Hill near Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat following an August wildfire.
Discovered during a routine patrol, the remains were removed by archaeologists for analysis.
The site, near a prehistoric hill fort and Duddingston Loch, is historically significant, but the bones’ origin, age, and context remain unknown.
Officials believe they are likely post-medieval, with radiocarbon dating planned.
The wildfire’s cause is still under investigation.
