Starting January 2026, Singapore’s secondary school students will be banned from using smartphones and smartwatches during all school hours, including recess and co-curricular activities, expanding previous rules that only applied during lessons.

Devices must be stored in lockers or bags, with exceptions allowed by schools.
Personal learning devices like tablets will also enter sleep mode earlier, at 10:30 PM, to promote better sleep habits.
The policy builds on existing rules for primary schools since 2025 and includes support for parents through new programs and resources.
