Senegal has arrested Sanna Manjang, a former member of Gambia’s "Junglers" death squad, over the 2004 murder of AFP journalist Deyda Hydara, the Gambian government confirmed.
Manjang, accused of involvement in Hydara’s killing during former dictator Yahya Jammeh’s rule, was apprehended in southern Senegal.
The arrest follows cooperation between Senegalese and Gambian authorities, and Manjang is set to be repatriated for trial.
Hydara, a prominent critic of government corruption and press repression, was shot in his car outside Banjul.
While a 2006 report offered no answers, later testimony before the TRRC implicated Manjang.
Another Jungler, Bai Lowe, was sentenced to life in Germany in 2023, with his appeal denied in 2024.
Jammeh, who fled in 2017, remains a target for prosecution if he returns.
