MIs SDAL and CSIR-NAL develop a 150 kg loitering drone with 900 km range for India’s defense self-reliance.

MIs Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd (SDAL) has partnered with India’s CSIR-NAL to develop a 150 kg loitering munition UAV, selected through competitive bidding. The system, designed for domestic production, will have a 900 km range, 6–9 hour endurance, and 5 km ceiling, powered by a NAL-developed Wankel engine certified for flight testing. It features a low radar profile, operates in GPS-denied environments, and includes an AI-enabled EO-IR payload for advanced target detection. The project supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat defense self-reliance goals.
