India reaffirms ties with Bangladesh amid political turmoil, citing upcoming elections as hope for improved relations.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said India remains committed to its friendship with Bangladesh despite political instability following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation in August 2024 and her subsequent death sentence by a Bangladeshi tribunal.
Speaking in Pune, he expressed cautious optimism, citing upcoming February 2026 parliamentary elections as a potential turning point for improved relations.
He emphasized India’s enduring ties with Bangladesh, noting his first official visit was to Dhaka and highlighting the role of the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Tripathi also praised the graduation of 329 cadets, including 15 women and 20 from friendly nations, at the National Defence Academy.
