Gaza’s death toll exceeds 70,100 since Oct. 7, 2023, amid ongoing violence despite a ceasefire.
The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has surpassed 70,100 since the Israel-Hamas war began, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, which reports ongoing casualties despite a ceasefire that started October 10.
At least 352 Palestinians have been killed since then, including two children in a drone strike near a school in Beni Suhaila, which Israel said targeted militants crossing into Israeli-controlled areas.
Both sides accuse each other of violating the truce, while the U.S. develops a blueprint for Gaza’s future involving an international force and a transitional authority.
The war began October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking over 250 hostages; most have been returned, but two hostages remain unaccounted for.
Israel has also conducted raids in Syria and intensified strikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah.
