Faf du Plessis, former South Africa captain and 14-season IPL veteran, has announced he will skip the 2026 IPL auction, ending his current tenure in the league. The Delhi Capitals batter, who also played for Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, cited a desire for a new challenge and will instead participate in the Pakistan Super League. Across 154 IPL matches, Du Plessis scored 4,773 runs at a 35.10 average, winning two titles with CSK. Not retained by Delhi Capitals after 202 runs in nine matches in IPL 2025, he expressed gratitude for his time in India and emphasized his departure is not permanent, with plans to return to the IPL in the future. The 2026 IPL auction is scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi as a one-day mini-auction.
