In 2024, Brazilian lawyer Gabriela and UK executive Andrew, both with normal BMIs and active lifestyles, began using weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy off-label for cosmetic reasons, obtaining them online without prescriptions. Despite no medical need, they reported rapid appetite suppression and weight loss but cycle on and off the medications based on appearance, cost, or social events, skipping doses before eating or drinking. Doctors warn such misuse risks muscle loss and metabolic harm, as these drugs are approved only for obesity or type 2 diabetes, not cosmetic use.
