Bangladesh's tribunal orders BNP leader Fazlur Rahman to appear Dec. 8 over contempt charges for questioning its authority.
The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh has ordered BNP leader Fazlur Rahman to appear on December 8 over contempt charges tied to remarks he made on November 26, in which he questioned the tribunal’s authority and suggested internal corruption.
The prosecution argues the tribunal has jurisdiction over crimes against humanity, and Rahman’s comments, given his legal background and political role, were intentionally damaging.
Meanwhile, ICT-2 rejected a review plea by former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, who challenged the tribunal’s characterization of the July-August uprising, and will proceed with witness testimony in his case, which involves charges of command responsibility for killings during the unrest.
