New Zealand’s Alice Robinson won the women’s alpine World Cup giant slalom at Copper Mountain, Colorado, with the fastest times in both runs, finishing in 1 minute 58.91 seconds, 0.96 seconds ahead of Austria’s Julia Scheib, with Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund third.
The 24-year-old Robinson, who turned 24 on Monday, said she felt out of control during the second run but was surprised by her strong result, calling it a rebound after a recent poor performance.
American Mikaela Shiffrin, who extended her World Cup win record to 103 with two slalom victories this season, finished 14th but remains first in the overall standings.
The event marked the return of the alpine World Cup to Copper Mountain for the first time since 2001, with men’s races held earlier in the week and a women’s slalom scheduled for Sunday.
