Vivek Chaturvedi, a senior IRS officer, appointed CBIC chairman to boost tax enforcement and compliance.
Vivek Chaturvedi, a 1990-batch IRS officer specializing in Customs and Indirect Taxes, has been appointed Chairman of India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), succeeding Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, who retired on November 28, 2025.
Chaturvedi, currently a CBIC Member overseeing tax policy and legal matters, brings over 30 years of experience, including key roles as Principal Director General of Vigilance and head of the Directorate General of Analytics and Risk Management.
His appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, aims to strengthen tax administration, enhance compliance through data-driven strategies, and improve efficiency in GST, customs, and central excise enforcement under the Ministry of Finance.
