Stanford hires former QB Tavita Pritchard as head coach, effective after the Commanders’ final game.
Stanford has named Tavita Pritchard, a former quarterback and longtime assistant coach, as its new head football coach, effective after the Washington Commanders’ final game.
Pritchard, who played at Stanford from 2005 to 2008 and spent 13 years on the school’s coaching staff, returns to lead a program that has not made a bowl game since 2018.
He replaces interim coach Frank Reich, who led the 4-7 Cardinal to a win over Cal before their season finale against Notre Dame.
Pritchard, currently quarterbacks coach for the Commanders, is known for developing NFL talent and was instrumental in Jayden Daniels’ Rookie of the Year campaign.
The hiring, led by general manager Andrew Luck, marks a strategic move to rebuild Stanford football with a coach deeply rooted in its culture and values.
