Pakistani regulators warn 10 sugar mills of penalties for colluding to fix prices and delay crushing.
The Competition Commission of Pakistan has issued show-cause notices to ten Punjab sugar mills for allegedly colluding to fix sugarcane prices at Rs 400 per maund and delaying crushing operations until November 28, despite a prior directive to start on November 15.
The mills, including Fatima, Sheikho, and Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, are accused of violating the Competition Act by coordinating through a secret meeting on November 10, potentially creating artificial shortages and driving up sugar prices.
They have 14 days to respond, with the CCP warning of strict penalties for anti-competitive behavior.
