The Indian Navy commissioned its fourth Nilgiri-class frigate, Taragiri, on November 28, 2025, built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders under Project 17A. With 75% indigenous content and contributions from over 200 MSMEs, the ship showcases advanced stealth, automation, and firepower, including BrahMos missiles, MFSTAR radar, and MRSAM systems. Constructed in 81 months, faster than its predecessor, Taragiri is powered by a CODOG propulsion system and integrated platform management. The remaining three frigates are slated for delivery by August 2026, advancing India’s push for defense self-reliance.
