Colombia’s intelligence chief confirms ongoing U.S. cooperation on drug operations despite diplomatic tensions.
Colombia’s intelligence chief, Jorge Lemus, confirmed that cooperation with the U.S. CIA and other American intelligence agencies remains strong and uninterrupted despite a recent diplomatic dispute.
The rift followed U.S. sanctions on President Gustavo Petro, who accused Washington of undermining Colombia’s sovereignty.
Lemus stated that joint operations against drug trafficking continue, including the destruction of thousands of cocaine labs, and emphasized that intelligence sharing is “completely fluid.” He dismissed claims that the CIA orchestrated a leak involving a senior spy accused of ties to a FARC splinter group, calling the allegations potentially fabricated.
Despite internal scrutiny, Lemus affirmed that collaboration remains a top priority for both nations.
