A UK police officer was found guilty of gross misconduct for pushing a man during an arrest, causing him to fall, despite no serious injury.
A former Thames Valley Police officer, Thomas Coombs, working for Gloucestershire Police, was found guilty of gross misconduct after pushing a man in the chest during arrest processing in January 2024, causing him to fall and hit his head.
Though the man was not seriously injured, a disciplinary panel ruled Coombs’ use of force was unnecessary and disproportionate, despite his claim of a perceived threat.
The panel also found he violated standards on conduct, use of force, and respect, including swearing and disrespectful behavior while the man was restrained.
He received a final written warning valid for three years.
