Tyler Hewitt fled after a fatal U-Haul crash in Maine, was found with meth, and faces multiple charges.
Tyler Hewitt, 31, of Presque Isle, was arrested in Clinton, Maine, on Thursday after fleeing the scene of a fatal U-Haul crash on Interstate 95 on Tuesday morning.
The crash, which occurred around 7 a.m. near mile marker 138, killed passenger John Perkins, 38, of Hampden, after the vehicle veered off the northbound lanes, crossed the median, and struck a tree.
Hewitt, driving with a suspended license, was found walking near I-95 carrying a backpack with a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and remains in custody facing charges including leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, aggravated drug trafficking, and operating a vehicle after suspension.
The investigation is ongoing.
