Robert A.M. Stern, a celebrated American architect known for blending postmodern and traditional styles, has died at 86.
The founder of Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), established in 1969, he was recognized for iconic projects including 15 Central Park West in Manhattan, the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Florida.
His work emphasized contextual design, harmonizing with historical surroundings.
Stern served as dean of Yale School of Architecture from 1998 to 2016 and previously led Columbia University’s Temple Hoyne Buell Center.
He died comfortably at home, according to RAMSA, which did not disclose the cause of death but affirmed its commitment to upholding his legacy.
