Praveen Kumar appointed to lead India's BSF and ITBP border forces after DG Chaudhary's retirement.
Praveen Kumar, chief of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, has been appointed to the additional charge of Director General of the Border Security Force effective November 30, 2025, following the retirement of DG Daljit Singh Chaudhary.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the move, citing the need for leadership continuity.
Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer from West Bengal, brings over two decades of experience from the Intelligence Bureau.
He will oversee both major border forces—ITBP and BSF—responsible for guarding India’s frontiers with China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, until a permanent successor is named.
