New Zealand invests $5M to upgrade Gisborne port equipment, boosting trade and resilience.
The New Zealand government has allocated $5 million to upgrade container-handling equipment at Eastland Port in Gisborne, marking the first use of its $30 million Coastal Shipping Resilience Fund.
The investment, announced by Associate Transport Minister James Meager, aims to improve regional economic growth, enhance supply chain resilience, and support exports, particularly in case of road disruptions.
The project is expected to boost local businesses, attract trade, create jobs, and help achieve the government’s goal of doubling export value by 2035.
