New Zealand allocates $5M to upgrade Gisborne’s port equipment to boost trade and resilience.
New Zealand has allocated $5 million from its $30 million Coastal Shipping Resilience Fund to upgrade container-handling equipment at Eastland Port in Gisborne, the first recipient of the funding.
The investment, announced by Associate Transport Minister James Meager, aims to improve regional economic growth, enhance supply chain resilience during disruptions like Cyclone Gabrielle, and support local exporters.
The upgrade is expected to boost trade access, create jobs, and help achieve the government’s goal of doubling export value by 2035.
