Nebraska’s treasurer urges residents to claim over $16 million in unclaimed assets this year.
Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg is urging residents to search for unclaimed property as the year ends, highlighting that funds belong to individuals, not the state.
In 2025 alone, the Unclaimed Property Program returned over $16 million to nearly 16,500 people, bringing the total since its inception to about $260 million.
Residents can check for assets like forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, and unpaid life insurance benefits through Nebraska Lost Cash or the national Missing Money portal.
Spellerberg, who recently replaced outgoing Treasurer Tom Briese, aims to simplify the claims process.
