Manitoba RCMP officers now use body cameras, with 98% equipped as of Nov. 27, 2025, generating 175,000 evidence items.
98% of frontline Manitoba RCMP officers are equipped with body-worn cameras, part of a program launched in November 2024 that has generated around 175,000 pieces of evidence, including footage from two police shootings shared with the Independent Investigation Unit.
The cameras, activated during calls for service, are used to enhance transparency, support investigations, and improve accountability, with footage also provided to Crown attorneys and defence lawyers.
While Winnipeg considers adopting the technology, cost and privacy concerns remain, and public release of raw footage requires approval from the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
