A man was arrested in Auckland for using a spear gun in an aggravated robbery, fleeing police before being stopped with spike strips.

A 42-year-old man was arrested in Papatoetoe, Auckland, on November 28, 2025, after allegedly using a spear gun to threaten multiple victims during an aggravated robbery. Police say he attempted to enter a home on Wyllie Road, then threatened a woman by pointing the weapon at her before she escaped. He later demanded keys from another driver on Hillcrest Road, fled in the stolen vehicle, and was pursued by police who used a helicopter to locate the car on Cavendish Drive. The suspect discarded the spear gun and was stopped with spike strips on Beatty Avenue in Manurewa. He faces charges of aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery and is due to appear in Manukau District Court. Authorities credited the swift response for preventing further harm.
