Irish man faces extradition over 2017 migrant trafficking alleged, court rules.
A 55-year-old Irish man, Jeremiah O'Brien from Rathkeale, Limerick, appeared in the Irish High Court on November 27, 2025, facing extradition over alleged human trafficking.
He is accused of helping transport 66 migrants—mostly from Iraq, Syria, and Iran—from Greece to Italy in November 2017 using a rented speedboat without life jackets.
The boat ran aground near Gyalia Beach, Greece, and each passenger reportedly paid $4,000 to $6,000.
O'Brien denied involvement, claiming he had never been in Greece, though he admitted renting a car there.
The court found sufficient evidence to link him to a European arrest warrant issued under the Schengen Information System and remanded him in custody until his next appearance on December 9.
