The Boxing Federation of India has appointed Santiago Nieva as head coach of the women’s national boxing team, returning him to the role after his previous tenure from 2017 to 2021.
His appointment follows a strong performance by Indian women boxers at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida, where they won seven gold, one silver, and two bronze medals across Olympic weight categories.
Nieva, a globally experienced coach with stints in Sweden and Australia, will lead the team’s preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to establish consistent global medal contenders.
The BFI highlighted his technical expertise and the continued involvement of former coach D. Chandralal in the coaching setup.
