Good Food's exposé on harassment and abuse in Sydney’s hospitality industry won a Walkley Award and spurred major reforms.
Good Food won a Walkley Award for exposing systemic sexual harassment, discrimination, and unsafe conditions in Sydney’s hospitality industry, focusing on Swillhouse where female staff said they were retaliated against for reporting assaults, pressured to have sex with customers, and encouraged to use drugs.
The investigation, led by former employees Rachelle “Rocky” Hair and Jenna Hemsworth, prompted SafeWork NSW to mandate sexual violence training in pubs and clubs, triggered scrutiny of Merivale over worker exploitation and unsafe practices, and led to the resignation of Icebergs Dining Room and Bar’s founder after he shielded his son from assault allegations.
The reporting helped launch the advocacy group Sorry Not Sorry, recognized as a Cultural Change Champion, and prompted Good Food to revise its guide to exclude venues linked to serious misconduct.
The team also won in the specialist beat reporting category for uncovering misogyny in Australia’s medical system.
