Ghana’s Parliament refers former Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin to ethics committee over contempt for attending ECOWAS session after removal.
Ghana’s Parliament has referred Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges Committee over allegations of contempt, following his attendance at an ECOWAS Parliament session in September despite being formally removed from Ghana’s delegation in July.
Speaker Alban Bagbin cited violations of parliamentary authority and Standing Orders, stating Afenyo-Markin’s actions undermined institutional integrity.
The committee, chaired by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, will investigate whether his conduct breached privileges under Order 31 and Article 117 of the Constitution.
The case, which stems from a controversial reshuffle excluding the Minority Caucus, tests parliamentary accountability and could lead to disciplinary action.
