A New York-based private equity firm, General Atlantic, has acquired El Jannah, the Sydney-based Lebanese chicken chain founded in 1998, in a deal valued near $1 billion.
The acquisition, which followed a competitive bidding process, will fuel rapid expansion, with plans to open 150 new locations across Australia within two years, focusing on Queensland and South Australia.
The founding Estephan family will retain a significant stake and remain involved in operations, while CEO Brett Houldin continues in his role.
The deal marks a major milestone for the 27-year-old brand, which now operates over 50 restaurants and employs more than 2,000 people.
