Ukraine probes alleged $100M wartime corruption involving former Zelenskiy aide and body armor contract.
Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov was questioned by anti-corruption investigators on November 25 as a witness in a probe involving former President Zelenskiy associate Timur Mindich.
The investigation centers on allegations of a major wartime graft scheme, including claims of influence over state affairs and a suspected $100 million kickback scheme tied to a nuclear energy company.
Umerov, who denied any wrongdoing, said he met Mindich over a failed body armor contract canceled due to quality issues.
Seven people have been charged, five detained.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Umerov’s office declined to provide further details.
The case has prompted the dismissal of Ukraine’s justice and energy ministers, both of whom denied guilt.
