A UK police trainee was banned for sharing confidential data with her boyfriend, a drug dealer, leading to security concerns.
A 20-year-old trainee police officer in Leeds, Maryam Ilyas, has been permanently banned from law enforcement after using her access to confidential police systems to share sensitive information with her boyfriend, a known drug dealer.
She accessed internal records multiple times between March and May 2025, including details about an undercover operation, and communicated with him about money and drugs until his arrest in July.
Ilyas failed to disclose their relationship during vetting and resigned before a disciplinary hearing, where a misconduct panel confirmed she would have been dismissed for gross misconduct.
The case underscores concerns about data security and integrity in police training.
