Tennessee inmate Harold Nichols seeks clemency before his Dec. 11 execution, citing remorse, rehabilitation, and victim’s family forgiveness.
Tennessee death row inmate Harold Wayne Nichols, set for execution on December 11, 2025, has asked Governor Bill Lee to commute his death sentence to life in prison without parole.
His attorneys cite his confession, remorse, prison rehabilitation, and a meeting with the victim’s mother, who forgave him and gave him a Bible.
Nichols previously chose the electric chair but declined to select a method this time, so lethal injection will be used by default.
The state’s new pentobarbital-only protocol, revised in December 2024, faces ongoing legal challenges.
The governor has not yet responded to the clemency request.
