Spokane has launched a multi-pronged response to homelessness, opening 50 emergency shelter beds across four partner organizations and expanding mobile medication-assisted treatment services, following a citywide emergency declaration by Mayor Lisa Brown.
The city is also deploying outreach teams seven days a week to connect with homeless individuals, distributing supplies and guiding them to services like the Daytime Navigation Center.
Since October 28, police have issued hundreds of citations for illegal camping, with 63% downtown, while outreach teams have helped over 100 people access services.
Early results show 96 encampments resolved within 12 days of the program’s launch, reflecting a combined focus on compassion, enforcement, and long-term stabilization.
