The New Zealand Association of Scientists awarded its 2025 medals, including the inaugural Scientific Workers Medal to a technical team at the Bioeconomy Science Institute for developing AR37, a beneficial endophyte strain that boosts pasture resilience, reduces pests, and supports livestock health.
The innovation has contributed an estimated $3.6 billion to New Zealand’s economy over two decades and previously won the Prime Minister’s Science Prize.
The team, recognized for their behind-the-scenes work, includes Nicola Webb, Anouck de Bonth, Joanne Jensen, and others.
Other recipients include Dr. Tony Conner, Distinguished Professor Philip Hulme, Dr. Terry Isson, and Associate Professor Nic Rawlence, honored for achievements in primary industry, biological invasions, carbon removal, and science communication.
