Murihiku community marks one year of crime prevention program showing progress in youth safety and resilience.
On November 27, 2025, the Murihiku community in Invercargill marked the first anniversary of Hāpori Manawaroa ki Murihiku, a Southern Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities (ROCC) initiative launched in March 2023.
The event celebrated progress in reducing youth involvement in crime and improving child safety through youth leadership camps, alternative justice pathways, and police-Plunket child restraint checks.
Local leaders, iwi, and government officials praised the programme’s community-led approach, emphasizing prevention, whānau support, and partnerships as key to long-term resilience against organised crime, particularly methamphetamine distribution.
