Mitsubishi appoints Shunichi Kihara as new CEO effective Jan. 5, 2026, as it prepares new SUVs and hybrids.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia has appointed Shunichi Kihara as its new CEO, effective January 5, 2026, succeeding interim CEO Yoshinori Yamazaki.
Kihara, with prior roles in Mitsubishi’s North Asia Division and global sales, will lead the company as it launches the updated ASX SUV and a more capable Outlander PHEV with a larger battery pack in early 2026.
Despite a 16.3% year-to-date sales decline, Mitsubishi remains a top 10 automaker in Australia, ranking sixth in October 2025 and year-to-date with 52,364 units sold, outperforming Renault, Nissan, and Volkswagen.
The Triton ute and Outlander are key sellers.
Future plans include a rugged Outlander variant, potential model sharing with Nissan such as a Pajero version of the next-gen Patrol, hybrid versions of the ASX and Triton, and a new small electric SUV expected in late 2026.
