Ireland funds rail restoration from Athenry to Claremorris, aiming for completion by 2030.

Ireland has secured funding for the Athenry–Claremorris segment of the Western Rail Corridor under its 2026–2030 National Development Plan, with enabling works set to begin next year and full delivery targeted for 2030. The project will restore rail service between Mayo and Galway, improving transport for commuters, students, and healthcare patients, while supporting regional economic growth and tourism. Additional transport upgrades in Mayo, including road improvements and active travel infrastructure, are also included in the plan. The initiative, backed by grassroots advocacy and political support, marks a major step toward balanced regional development in western Ireland.
