The Indian government approved two railway multitracking projects in Maharashtra and Gujarat on November 26, 2025, at a cost of Rs 2,781 crore. The projects include a 141-km track doubling from Devbhumi Dwarka (Okha) to Kanalus and a 32-km third and fourth line expansion from Badlapur to Karjat, adding about 224 km to the rail network. They will improve connectivity for 585 villages housing roughly 3.2 million people, enhance freight and passenger services, reduce congestion, and support regional development. The upgrades are expected to boost freight capacity by 18 million tonnes annually, lower oil imports by 3 crore liters, cut CO2 emissions by 16 crore kg, and align with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
