West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has urged the Election Commission to bar the state police from election duties in 2026, alleging the Trinamool Congress misused police personnel during the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.
He cited a November 22 event in Digha as a political rally disguised as a police welfare conference, where officers and TMC leaders made partisan remarks.
Adhikari accused the government of election rigging, including voter data manipulation, and called for Central Armed Police Forces to be deployed, disciplinary actions against involved officers, and an investigation into ties between the police welfare committee and the TMC.
The Election Commission has scheduled a meeting with a Trinamool Congress delegation on November 28 to discuss concerns over the SIR process, which the party claims is biased and has contributed to stress-related deaths among polling officials.
