U.S. Senate passes law to replace incorrect crosses with Stars of David on Jewish veterans' graves abroad.
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Fallen Servicemembers Religious Heritage Restoration Act on November 20, 2025, launching a 10-year program to correct grave markers of Jewish American soldiers buried abroad who were mistakenly marked with Latin crosses instead of Star of David symbols.
The legislation, which follows identical unanimous passage of companion House legislation in September, aims to address the estimated 900 Jewish service members killed in World War I and World War II whose graves lacked proper religious representation.
The effort, backed by bipartisan support, will identify affected graves and replace incorrect markers to honor their faith and legacy.
