A UK woman diagnosed with a brain tumor after flight symptoms now advocates for research after achieving remission.
A 30-year-old woman from West Midlands, Abi Smith, was diagnosed with a glioma brain tumor after experiencing double vision during a flight in June 2019, initially blamed on cabin pressure.
Her symptoms worsened, leading to mobility issues and paralysis on one side, initially misdiagnosed as a stroke.
After a U.S. CT scan showed no abnormalities, an MRI in the UK revealed the tumor with spinal spread.
Though the main tumor was inoperable, surgeons removed the spinal portion in July 2019.
She completed radiotherapy and chemotherapy, achieving significant tumor shrinkage.
Now in remission, she advocates for brain tumor research funding, supporting the Brain Tumour Research Christmas Appeal through events and a donation-based card business, emphasizing that brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer death in people under 40.
